Band Bio
David Lee Valdez: (Guitar / Vocals)

Born 1961 in Brownsville, Texas. Saw Grand Funk Railroad at the age of 12 and life would never be the same. Inspired by Mark Farner and Grand Funk, I decided Music would be my life. My older brother bought me a drum set so I learned to play drums by watching Don Brewer and Ian Pace of Deep Purple. I played in several bands doing copy tunes and traveling all over Texas playing the club circuit. In the bands Sidekick and Slide, our main focus was progressive and southern rock. We played a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers.

Frustrated by not being able to write my own tunes, I bought a guitar at the age of 18 and started a new band, Ambush, this time playing the guitar. With the help of some great local talent, we rose to the occasion and soon became one of the better local bands playing originals and opening for big bands, Iron Butterfly, Brownsville Station, and Head East to name a few. We traveled and toured all over the U.S.A. playing the club circuit. Wanting more, I came home and redid the band adding some different pieces trying to find the magic I needed to write and create the style and kind of music I grew up with adding an edge of my own. Bad Habit was the next venture with great musicians but lacked some focus. It would be 1984 when I met local drummer, Paul Pederson that the magic finally came together. We had the same influences in music.

At the age of 23, I had developed a style of writing that is still with me today. Influenced by guitar greats like Carlos Santana, Micheal Schenker, Richie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Edward Van Halen, and Joe Satriani, I felt like I had the tools I needed to put some really good songs together.

Focusing on a groove with Paul on drums, adding solid guitar parts including melodic solos, Sidewinder would have the soul I was looking for. We are always coming up with ideas, writing songs, and looking for new and different ways to express our selves musically. I thank God and everyone that has helped me to become the musician I am today.
